Recognized nationally for its use of emerging technologies and innovation, Hawaiʻi is leveraging technology to reinvent government as we know it.
In its journey towards modernization, the State launched the Hawaii Department Dashboard, a dynamic data visualization tool to track IT projects and spending across 16 executive State departments. The Hawaii Department Dashboard not only improves strategic planning but also provides transparency in government IT investments and makes data accessible to the public. Additionally, it propels Hawaiʻi into the 21st Century and secures the State’s position as a leader in engaging citizens and providing services online.
To encourage citizen engagement and transparency, the State government have provided the following Web portals:
- Hawaii.gov – A comprehensive update to the state’s main Web portal, in conjunction with upgrades to webpages across all state departments and agencies, enhanced mobile, touch and speech capability, increased consistency, and improved accessibility for all users, showcasing the very best in Web design thinking. - Data.hawaii.gov – The state’s data portal provides unparalleled access to state government information, in turn leading to increased transparency, driving civic innovation, and engaging participants in a more collaborative form of government.
Hawaiʻi is a recognized leader among the states
The Aloha State has been recognized for its dedication and commitment towards transforming government. Here are highlights of the awards it has received:
Hawaiʻi was ranked first among fifty States in emerging technologies/innovation, according to the Center for Digital Government’s 2018 Digital States Survey. It also ranked second for its exemplary work in support of collaboration.
The State’s Hawaii Department Dashboard has been recognized with the first ever Chaucer Digital Innovation Award in the North America category. The Chaucer Digital Innovation Awards seek cutting-edge projects.
The Hawaiʻi Annual Code Challenge (HACC) has been awarded the State IT Innovation of the Year award by StateScoop, the leading government IT media company in the nation’s capital. HACC was selected among 49 finalists from across the country for the top award. The StateScoop 50 Awards annually honor the best and the brightest who make state and local government more efficient and effective. These awards celebrate the outstanding achievements and acknowledge the tireless effort to make a positive impact in the government IT community and in public service.
The road ahead has some significant challenges, but Hawaiʻi is well poised to deliver on the promise of a government that delivers the services people need – anywhere, anytime.
